James Lawrence Mitchell, age 88, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 1:18 P.M. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois.He was born on July 19, 1929 in Galesburg, the son of Dorothy Robertson and Lloyd Mitchell. He was their only child. He graduated from Maquon High School in Maquon, Illinois.
James married Bonnie Louise Thomas on June 27, 1950. They were childhood sweethearts.
Surviving is his wife, Bonnie Mitchell of Galesburg; three daughters: Linda Kelly of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Ronda Mitchell of Saint Charles, Missouri, Teena Mitchell of Galesburg; and one grandson, Samuel James Kelly.
James was an Army Veteran; he served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. He worked at Maytag for 44 and a half years, retiring on January 1, 1992.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a part of the Good News Bible Study Class.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Private graveside services will be held at the East Linwood Cemetery. At his request, no other services are planned.
