The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees has reached a decision in their search for the community college’s next president.Dr. Seamus Reilly is their choice, which will make him the 7th Sandburg President and the successor to Dr. Lori Sundberg who is set to lead Kirkwood Community College starting in July.
Reilly was among 40 initial applicants and three final candidates, who each participated in two-day interviews at the Galesburg and Carthage campuses in April.
The other two were Dr. Ellen Crowe, Sandburg’s current VP of Academic Services and Dr. Tim Wynes who withdrew from consideration.
Reilly is coming from Parkland College in Champaign where he served as VP of Institutional Advancement for the past decade.
Besides his administrative experience, Reilly’s academic background has largely been focused on English and literature.
In a statement Reilly says he is “honored and humbled by the chance to serve this great institution.”
The Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting this Wednesday at 5 p.m. to formally approve Reilly as president.
