Bivens, Shirley J. Lundeen

Shirley J. Lundeen Bivens, 79, of Aledo, Illinois, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church Aledo. Burial is in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. She was born February 19, 1934 in Richland Grove Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Harry and Bernice McCaw Dawson. She graduated from Sherrard High School in 1951 and married Carl V. Lundeen September 29, 1951 in Cable, Illinois. He died in 1991. She later married Herb Bivens May 1, 2004. He died in 2005.

Shirley was employed at Audrey’s Coffee Shop in Woodhull. After moving to Aledo in 1969, she was employed by Dee Dellitt at the Town & Country Bowling Alley. She later worked at the Town & Country Restaurant in Aledo and was a caregiver to Louis Turilli in East Moline for the past five years.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary and the Wednesday Evening Ladies Bowling League. Shirley was the secretary/treasurer for the Tuesday Night Men’s and Jolly Boys Bowling Leagues.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo, sewing, crafts, cooking, baking, gardening and shopping. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters: Connie (Charley) Thomas of Aledo; Cindy (Mike) Bosold of Milan; one son: Ken “Bub” (Diane) Lundeen of Aledo; one son-in-law: Adam Cortez of Moline; 7 grandchildren: Carrie Jo, Maxi, Brandy, Joshua, Michael, Linsey and Tori; 4 step grandchildren: Rich, Jennifer, Jeff and Jim; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters: Patty Logston of Cable; Illinois; Linda Nichols of Rock Island, Illinois ; four brothers: Bill Dawson of Lake Havasu, Arizona; Dean Dawson of Cable; Terry Dawson of Texas; Mike Dawson of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husbands; one son: Carl Jr.; one daughter: Kim; one grandson-in-law: Mike McIntire; three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
