May, Cecil Ray

Cecil R. May, 82 of Oquawka, Illinois, died 8:53 P.M. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab, Stronghurst, Illinois.

He was born March 19, 1932, in Cedar Creek, Missouri, the son of Perry and Minnie (Combs) May. He was raised and educated in Cedar Creek, Missouri.

Cecil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952 and was awarded the Bronze Star, United Nations of Service and National Defense Service Medals.

Cecil married Alice Kimmitt in Arkansas on November 26, 1983 and she survives.

 

He was a painter by trade and enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.

Cecil was a member of the Light of Life Church Ministries, Oquawka.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice of Oquawka, sisters-in-laws Carlone May of Branson, Missouri, Jackie May of Kirbyville, Missouri and Reva Kimmitt of Galesburg, Illinois along with several nieces and nephews.

Per Cecil’s wishes, cremation will be accorded, and no visitation or services will be held at this time. Memorials may be made to Oak land Nursing an Rehab or Hospice of the donor’s choice and may be left at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Online condolences may be left at www.hooverhall.com
