Girls Basketball

The Quincy Blue Devils will be in town tonight for girls basketball game at John Theil Gym, where our Galesburg Silver Streaks girls will be looking for their 15th win of the season. The odds look pretty good for the Streaks, as Quincy is yet to win a game this season, while GHS is 14-11. We’ll have the broadcast beginning at 6:40 with Jim Wyman and Erik Gibson here on WGIL. It will also be a “pink out” night at GHS, and t-shirts will be available for $10.

Other games on the area girl’s schedule tonight include:

Knoxville at Lewistown
Peoria Heights at Abingdon-Avon
Stark County at Ridgewood

College Basketball

The Carl Sandburg College teams will be in action again tonight—this time on their homecourt—as they host Sauk Valley. The Chargers women will play at 5:30, followed by the men’s game at 7:30.

Knox and Monmouth are both facing roadtrips to Wisconsin this weekend. The Prairie Fire will play at St. Norbert, where the Green Knights are at the top of the Midwest Conference standings in both men’s and women’s play. Monmouth will travel to Appleton, Wisconsin to play Lawrence University on Saturday.

Boxing

Galesburg’s George Carter, Jr. is on the verge of finalizing a new contract that would assure him of at least three fights a year for the next four years. Carter’s manager–Carlos Duncan of Galesburg–says the deal should be completed by next weekend. Carter, who will turn 28 on February 7th, is undefeated in his professional career, but has had trouble securing fights that would let him rise through the rankings.
