The unemployment rate increased again in Knox County, albeit by a negligible amount, according to the latest figures from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Non-seasonally adjusted data showed unemployment of 8.7 percent in December for the County – higher than the 8.6-percent unemployment reported for the same period last year.
According to a press release, Illinois added jobs in four metro areas for the month of December.
The City of Galesburg is performing a bit worse than more rural areas of Knox County reporting unemployment of 9.1 percent – higher than the 8.6 percent reported last year.
The IDES is still citing a global slowdown in manufacturing as the primary cause behind a slowdown in job growth.
Neighboring counties were mixed with Stark and Fulton County on the high end again this month at 10.4% unemployment.
Henderson 7.4% unemployment, Warren County reported 7.6%, Henry County came in at 7.7% unemployment, Hancock 9.3%, Mercer 8%, and McDonough County reported 7.6% unemployment.
