Kennelly, Teddy A.

Teddy A. Kennelly, age 90, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 2:04 A.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home in Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born on April 12, 1923 in Maquon, Illinois the son of Joseph A. and F. Mae Simkins Kennelly. He attended and graduated from Maquon High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army Air Corp, from 1941 to 1945, stationed in England, flying over thirty missions as a Waist Gunner. He is a holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Mary B. Cooper on May 26, 1945 in rural Canton, Illinois. She survives and lives in Knoxville, Illinois.

Surviving are his children: Phil Kennelly of Yates City, Illinois, Kyle (Kathy) Kennelly of Alpha, Illinois, Brian (Debbie) Kennelly of Danville, Iowa, Mickey (Jeff) Woolsey of Knoxville, Illinois, and Kevin (Annette) Kennelly of Galesburg, Illinois; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Jo (Dean) Johnson of Lewistown, Illinois, and Betty (Don) McRoberts of Moline, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Virgil and Eugene, one sister, Laura Lee Aiken; one grandson, Ryan Wiscons; and two great grandchildren, Jolie Wiscons and Colin Kennelly.

He was a farmer in rural Maquon, Illinois, and then became a rural mail carrier in 1966 for Maquon, Gilson, and Knoxville areas. He was a former member of the Maquon American Legion #1099 and past commander, and now a member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749. He enjoyed bowling and golf and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be held at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #259 of Galesburg, Illinois.
