John C. Thompson, 78, of Galesburg, died at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born March 25, 1935 in Monmouth, Ill. the son of Harry C. and Nellie Kathryn (Simpson) Thompson. He married Helen E. Killeen on September 7, 1963 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1998.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda M. Thompson of Chicago and a sister, Emma Jean (and Robert) Carner of Kirkwood, Ill.
John worked for Nabisco Inc. in the Galesburg territory for 13 years, retiring in 1976. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1953 and attended Western Illinois University and the University of Illinois. John was a member of the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of Jaycees, a former member of AMBUCS, and a member of Delta Sigma Phi.
John served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
