From Snow to Bitter Cold Across the Area

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 328

Frozen BusesThe latest round of winter weather will change from concerns about snow today, to concerns about bitter cold later tonight. Many storm totals aren’t yet available, but the National Weather Service says around four-and-a-half inches of snow fell earlier this morning in the Altona area, while as much as five-and-a-half inches of snow fell in Henry County, and five inches of snow over in Burlington, Iowa. Recent Galesburg totals also mirrored those. And, now, blowing and drifting of snow in some areas is a concern. For Knox County, the Winter Storm Warning was downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory until noon, but some areas are under the storm warning.

Then, get ready for the cold once again. Knox County will be under a Wind Chill Warning from late tonight until mid-day tomorrow, while other areas will be under a Wind Chill Advisory.
Wind chill readings in Galesburg are expected to become as low as 30-degrees-below zero by tomorrow morning.
Cold temperatures and single-digit lows, or below-zero lows, will be in the forecast in the foreseeable future for the most part.
Many schools closed today because of the snow, and many may close tomorrow because of the cold.
