Here’s a look at today’s sports schedule.
A Western Big Conference road trip is on the schedule for the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team tonight, as they will battle the Moline Maroons at Whartan Fieldhouse in the Quad Cites. Galesburg won the first meeting between the two teams on December 13th by the score of 46-38. The Silver Streaks forced Moline into 13 second-half turnovers in that one to come back from a two-point halftime deficit. GHS enters tonight’s matchup on a 7-game winning streak, and has a mark of 19-6 overall, and 5-1 in conference play. Moline is 3-3 in the conference, and 14-9 overall. Broadcast time is scheduled for 7:06 here on WGIL.
Other Western Big 6 games tonight include Alleman at Rock Island, and Quincy at United Township.
In the local area this evening, Abingdon-Avon hosts South Fulton, while Knoxville travels to Rushville-Industry.
The Galesburg girls basketball team has drawn the #2 seed for the Geneseo Regional which begins on Monday, February 17th. The Silver Streaks fell to the host Maple Leafs, who are the top seed, in overtime earlier this season. Other teams in the field include third-seed Rock Island Alleman, fourth-seed Dunlap, and #5 Chillicothe IVC.
The Silver Streak girls posted their biggest win of the season last night, knocking off first-place Rock Island 67-57 at John Thiel Gym. The girls will play at New Trier tomorrow afternoon. The Trevians are ranked #10 in the state in class 4A, with a record of 20-2. We’ll have the broadcast at 1:10 here on WGIL.
The winter sports season is winding down for several GHS squads, as both the girls bowling team and boys wrestling team have their Regional tournaments tomorrow.
