EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Donivine Stewart scored a career-high 24 points and had eight assists as Southern Illinois-Edwardsville held on to defeat Tennessee-Martin 84-78 Saturday night.
SIUE had its largest lead, 63-51 with 12:38 to play. UT-Martin stormed back with a 12-2 run, capped by Myles Taylor’s 3-pointer, to pull within 65-63 with 6:56 to play. SIUE led by as many as seven points down the stretch. Kris Davis scored seven of his 21 points with less than 4 minutes to play to seal it for the Cougars.
Stewart made eight of his nine field goal attempts, including three 3-pointers. Davis was 8 of 13 from the field. Christian Salecich added 12 points for SIU-Edwardsville (10-15, 6-5 Ohio Valley).
Mike Liabo scored 17 points, Taylor and Terence Smith each chipped in 13 points for Tennessee-Martin (7-19, 2-9). Marshun Newell added 10 points and seven assists for the Skyhawks.
