Velma B. “Molly” McGee, 85, of Galesburg, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born July 22, 1928 in Streator, Ill. the daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Hawkins) Hillier. She married Burrel “Fibber” McGee on June 4, 1946 in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years; one son, Barry Dean (and Pam) McGee of Galesburg; a daughter-in-law, Mary McGee of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Traci (and Sam) Anderson of Rockton, Ill. and Dean M. McGee of Galesburg and three great grandchildren, Myranda, Allison, and Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Timothy J. McGee and Darrell L. McGee; a daughter, Laurie Lynn McGee; two brothers, Ed and Howard Hillier; and a sister, Carole Reed.
Molly was an assembler at Admiral in Galesburg until 1970 when she and Fibber moved to Florida. She worked for Motorola in Florida until retirement. They returned to Galesburg in 2008. She was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg. Molly enjoyed knitting, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. She loved flowers, nature, and all animals.
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel followed by a graveside service at East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or Relay for Life. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
