Prior, McKee Janet

Janet McKee Prior, age 74 of rural London Mills and formerly of Abingdon, died at 1:25 am Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Care Center of Abingdon.She was born on January 23, 1940 in Versailles, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Pauline (Icenogle) Ashley. She married Gary McKee on August 17, 1958 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1989. She later married Thomas Prior on May 6, 2000 in Abingdon.
Janet is survived by her husband, Tom; two daughters, Kelly (and Greg Schisler) McKee of Abingdon, and Darci (and Ron) Tharp of Kirkwood; one son, Dana McKee of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Mallory and Miranda; two stepsons, Randy (and Billie) Prior of Monmouth, and Rod Prior of Abingdon; two step-granddaughters, Michelle and Stephanie; five step-great-grandchildren, Sydney, Maddie, Alexis, Logan and Tyler; one brother, Larry (and Della) Ashley of Normal; and nieces and nephews and their families. And let’s not forget her dog, Tank, whom she loved very much.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Darrel Ashley.
Janet graduated from Abingdon High School in 1958. She had lived in the Abingdon and London Mills areas most of her life. She last worked at Hi-Lo Grocery in Abingdon, and before that she had worked at the Admiral Factory in Galesburg, and the Gambles Store and Tate’s Liquor Store in Abingdon. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She enjoyed “Boating” whether it was on the gambling boats or the real boat rides on the Mississippi River with her family. She also enjoyed family get-togethers, visiting friends and having lunch at the Town & Country Restaurant in Abingdon. And like most of her family, she was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Darryl McDaniel and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to continue to celebrate Janet’s life at a luncheon at the Abingdon Christian Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
