Adolphson, Emil E.

Mr. Emil E. Adolphson, 82, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at his home.

He was born on July 29, 1931 to Emil G. and Helen McCulloch Adolphson. He married Caroline V. Templeton on October 15, 1950 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Laura (and Jeffrey) York of Wheaton, Ill. and Amy (and John) Grimes of Greenfield, Ind.; two sisters, Alice Walker and Rose Anne Saul, both of Galesburg; and three grandchildren, Hillary York, Sarah York and Adam Grimes.

Emil worked at the former First Galesburg National Bank for five years and then 34 years at the Old Second National Bank in Aurora, Ill., retiring in 1992. He served as Treasurer of the Village of North Aurora for 15 years.

He was a 1949 graduate of Galesburg High School and a graduate of American Banking Institute. He was a founding and charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, N. Aurora, Ill. He attended the Covenant Church and the Central Congregational Church, both in Galesburg. He lived in Sun City West, Ariz. for 13 years following his retirement before returning to Galesburg. He was an avid handball and tennis player as well as a swimmer.

He was stationed in Washington D.C. during his service in the U.S. Navy. Also during his tour of duty he received the “Order of Blue Nose” recognition for serving in the Arctic Circle.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the chapel.
