Smith, Logan J.

Logan J. Smith, 17, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014.

He was born November 21, 1996 in Galesburg to John O. Smith and Lori A. Sweeney.

Surviving are his parents of Galesburg; his grandparents, Raymond “Butch” Smith and Bette Marge Smith of Galesburg; a special aunt, Kay Stake of Galesburg; two brothers, Phillip J. “PJ” Sweeney of Galesburg and Frank L. Smith of Galesburg; and two sisters, Stephanie M. (and Timothy) Steele of Galesburg and Katie L. Smith of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by two grandparents, Paul F. and Alma E. Sweeney.

Logan attended Galesburg Christian School until eleventh grade and then Galesburg High School since August of 2013. He had also taken some classes at Carl Sandburg College as a high school student. He was a member of Key Club, Chess Club and was an officer in German Club at Galesburg High. Logan was a volunteer at OSF St Mary Medical Center, the Galesburg Animal Shelter and Red Cross where he donated blood as well as his time. He was a member of the “Adopt-a-Shelf” program at Galesburg Public Library. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and attended Calvary Assembly of God and Northwoods Churches. Logan was an organ and tissue donor and his gift was able to help 40 to 60 people.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jon Baker will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the chapel. Cremation will follow the Celebration of Life. Private family graveside service will be at a later date.
