Agriculture is everywhere, especially in Knox County.

No matter where you go around the area, you’re bound to see a few farms–from corn and soybeans to live stock farmers.

That’s why students around the area have a program called “Ag in the Classroom,” sponsored by the Knox County Farm Bureau.

Today, more than 400 fourth grade students came to Carl Sandburg College for the Farm Bureau’s annual program.

Future Farmer of America Cheyanne Dierickx says she remembers attending the same event when she was in fourth grade, and now she’s excited to be helping out.

Dierickx tells WGIL not everyone in Knox County grew up on a farm, and this program can help educate students about farm life.

“There’s a lot of kids in the area that don’t have a farm background, so I think it’s good that they come here and they get to know what ag is all about,” says Dierickx.

Students spent around ten minutes learning about eight different topics.

Some lessons were hands on like animal care, and the soil and water conservation session.

Others were in a classroom learning about the pork, soybean, dairy, corn, and the cattle industry.
