The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team will play for the regional championship tonight, when they battle the homestanding Geneseo Maple Leafs. Geneseo beat Galesburg 58-56 in overtime on January 11th at John Thiel Gym. The Maple Leafs also defeated the Silver Streaks at last year’s regional tournament at Dunlap 55-46. Galesburg has a record of 17-14, while Geneseo is 16-13. Broadcast time is 6:40 with Jim Wyman and Erik Gibson tonight here WGIL.
In other girls basketball regional finals tonight, Moline meets United Township in Rock Island; Richwoods plays Notre Dame in Peoria; and powerhouses Springfield and Quincy Notre Dame will battle tonight in Springfield,
The Galesburg boys have a pair of home games this weekend, beginning tonight against Western Big Six champion Rock Island. We’ll have the broadcast just after 7 on 92.7FM the Laser with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee. The Silver Streaks have lost three straight games. They’ll play host to Chillicothe IVC tomorrow night.
Tonight’s game is Pink Out Night, honoring the late coach Jason Gray. It is also Alumni Night, with class of 2000 graduate Beau Shay to be the featured speaker after the game.
