The next step in possibly getting tenants inside the still-vacant land once known as Logistics Park Galesburg is using a real estate agent.
The Galesburg Business District Development and Redevelopment Commission — the group tasked with overseeing the park — has approved going forward with a process that will lead to real estate firms submitting bids for the chance to market what was officially named the Galesburg Business Park Thursday.
City Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez tells WGIL there are certain things the city is looking for in a real estate partner.
“We’re looking for someone with a broad reach — a national brand, also a national reach with…a lot of other brokers,” Suarez said. “That way, they can get a lot of leads for us. I think another thing, too, is to see that we can have a listing agreement that would be longer in duration in one year. We’re looking for someone who’s willing to commit for the long haul, as well as ourselves..”
Suarez says once the city writes the official Request for Proposals, the hope is to have bids back by March 27th. He says then the top three chosen by a sub-committee will be interviewed in person, with hopes of having a formal recommendation to the Galesburg City Council by May 19th.
Suarez says local and national firms will be considered.
