Turner, Carl S.

Carl Sunny “C.S.” Turner, 67, of 1519 Quincy St., Rockford, Ill. died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 12:35 a.m. in River Bluff Nursing Home, Rockford, Ill.

Carl was born May 26, 1946 in Moro, Ark. to Curnel and Dorothy Mae Turner.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Tia Turner and Leslie Turner, of Rockford, Ill.; four brothers, Dennis Turner, Jimmy Turner, Jerry Turner, of Galesburg, Ill., and Billy Turner (Regina) of Chicago Heights; three sisters, Christene Jones (Glenn), Pearlie Turner of Chicago, Ill., and Alberta Turner of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren, three aunts, and two uncles, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.Preceding him in death was his father, mother, and one brother, Oliver Turner Sr.

He attended Galesburg High School and graduated from Kansas City Trade School. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad, worked a number of years in construction and was an avid mechanic. He was a member of New Home Missionary Baptist Church; he was also a member of Local United Transportation Union. Carl enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Finley will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
