The post-season begins tonight for the small-school boys basketball teams in Illinois. Locally, the class 1A tournament is in Abingdon, where the only game of the night has the Ridgewood Spartans playing the West Prairie Cyclones. Kewanee Wethersfield is the top seed. Meanwhile in Toulon, Stark County hosts Elmwood this evening. Brimfield is the top seed there. And in Macomb, the class 2A regional opens with a pair of games tonight, including United and Farmington in game 1, followed by Knoxville and West Central in game 2.
The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys are off until Friday, when they will host United Township. Head Coach Mike Reynolds told us after Saturday’s win over Illinois Valley Central, that they also have their eye on next week’s potential Regional opponents.
The GHS boys now have a record of 20-10 for the season.
The Silver Streaks girls season is over, after they fell to Geneseo in overtime Friday night in the regional championship game. They finished with a record of 17-15. The season continues for the Maple Leafs, at least for one more night, as Geneseo is a decided underdog against the Washington Panthers tonight at the sectional in Chillicothe. Other girls basketball tonight has South Fulton playing Carrollton at the Jacksonville Supersectional at Illinois College. And at Monmouth College, the class 2A Supersectional has Prophetstown playing El Paso-Gridley.
