The City of Galesburg’s Economic Development Department plans on using a tool increasing in popularity to help them market and develop what formerly was known as Logistics Park Galesburg.
City Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez says it’s still in the early stages, but the city plans to have what they call a “virtual building” available for prospective tenants of the Galesburg Business Park — mostly so they know how they can develop the land they need.
Suarez tells WGIL the goal is to make the development process as easy as possible for those tenants.
“When someone comes and says ‘hey, you know, what would it take to put up a 50-thousand square foot facility?’ well, by doing all of the prior planning and cost estimating, what we end up doing is having some sort of dollar figure, some sort of proposal to share with somebody,” says Suarez.
Suarez says the plans will take into account all costs, and all city rules and regulations, so essentially if they like what they see, a builder can just come in and build and not worry about anything else.
A formal proposal for how to move forward with virtual building designs is expected to go before the city’s Business District Development and Redevelopment Commission in April.
