Dennis W. Bailey, 63, of Galesburg, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 in Galesburg, surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born December 19, 1950 in Peoria, the son of Herman and Dorothy (Darby) Bailey. He married Denise Winter on October 7, 1972 in Altona. Dennis is survived by his wife, Denise of Galesburg; two sons, Shawn Tarleton of Galva and Michael (Krista) Bailey of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Michelle (David) Vella of Rockford; four grandchildren, whom he adored, Ryan, Grace, Caden, and Terra; and his faithful K-9 companion, Barney. He is also survived by three brothers, Chuck (Bonnie) Fisher of Florida, Jess (Joetta) Fisher of Galesburg, and Michael (Billie) Bailey of Victoria; one sister, Bonnie (Donald) Ruhl of Galva; two brothers-in-law, Bob (Gail) Winter and Rich (Cheryl) Winter both of Galesburg; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Winter of Galesburg; his father-in-law, Richard (Juanita) Winter of Galva; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, and four nephews.
Dennis worked at Butler Mfg. for 31 years. He then worked at Knox College until his retirement in June 2013. Dennis loved to read a good mystery book. He enjoyed working in his garden and just being outdoors. He was an avid Bears fan. Most of all he loved to attend his grandchildren’s plays and sporting events.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Doggy Daze Program or the Knox College Alumni Hall Terrace Project.
