Another round of semifinal games are scheduled for tonight at the area boy’s regional basketball tournaments. In Abingdon, the homestanding A-Town Tornadoes will play the Galva Wildcats in the late game. The early matchup features top-seeded Kewanee Wethersfield against the Ridgewood Spartans. Also in class 1A action, Williamsfield meets Illini Bluffs at the Toulon Regional. Top-seeded Brimfield will battle rival Elmwood in the other semifinal. And in class 2A play in Macomb, the host Bombers will play the Knoxville Blue Bullets. Knoxville is coming off a Monday night’s win over West Central.
Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball player Destini Bollinger has earned first-team All-Region 4 honors for her performance this season. Bollinger, a sophomore from Astoria, IL, played her high school ball for South Fulton High School. The 5-foot-10 forward is the first Chafgers player to be named first-team All-region since former Silver Streak player Taylor Young did it in the 2008-09 season. Bollinger is second on the team in scoring, and leads the Chargers in rebounding, steals, and field goal percentage. Sandburg begins postseason play tomorrow night when they host Elgin at 6pm. The Chargers women are 12-13 overall, and 5-6 in the Arrowhead Conference this year.
