McCullough, Mary J.

Mary J. McCullough, 79, of Galesburg, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born May 10, 1934 in Galesburg the daughter of William and Marie F. (Briggs) Cronkhite. After her father died, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Marion Welsh. She married Robert McCullough in Monmouth, Ill. He preceded her in death in December 1983.

She is survived by her children, Rose Cronkhite of Galesburg; Mark McCullough of Sherman, Texas, and Scott (and Datha Skinner) McCullough of Cameron, Ill.; three grandchildren, Troy Cronkhite, Chad Cronkhite, and Alexis McCullough; two great grandsons, Zack Rhea and Christopher Hensley; and two sisters, Marian F. (and Cliff) Lynch of Maquon, Ill. and Barbara Quinn of Abingdon, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; and an infant sister, Shirley.

Mary worked in housekeeping for many years at Hotel Custer and Galesburg Holiday Inn. She also worked as a receptionist at the Knox County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She lived her entire life in Galesburg. Mary enjoyed volunteering for the Knox County Humane Society and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens at 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
