It took less than 24 hours to start the search back up for 66-year old Floyd Belless of Bernadotte on Wednesday.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area after a report of a man stranded in the water Monday evening.
Authorities believe Belless was travelling by boat to gather items from his flood affected home along the Spoon River when his boat capsized.
The search was called off without officially getting in the water on Monday evening due to harsh weather conditions and was again suspended on Tuesday after a search didn’t turn up the boat or Belless.
Authorities said they intended to wait until the flood waters along the Spoon River receded – which apparently took less than one day.
According to a press release, Belless’ boat was located under the ice in the flood waters by an Illinois Conservation Police Officers using a metal detector, yesterday.
Multiple departments have been assisting in the search efforts, with the boat removed by members of the dive team.
Crews searched the areas around the boat, but were unable to locate Belless. The search was again suspended yesterday afternoon until weather conditions improve.
