County Board Approves Multiple Union Contracts

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 195

Knox County SealThe Knox County Board still has quite a few departments to go, but several more union contracts were approved last night.

Details of the negotiations are currently in short supply, but several board members were pleased with the results of the contracts so far.

A three year contract was approved with the employees which guarantees annual pay increases each of those years.

AFSCME Staff Representative Randy Lynch tells WGIL that several issues were covered throughout the agreement, but wages were normal compared to the rest of the state.

“We’re pleased with what we’ve got,” Lynch said.  “Hopefully, things will get better in the future, and maybe we can get a little more in wages, and better benefits.  For this [contract], we’re fine.”

The contracts so far have been signed with few problems which is partially due to an understanding about the lack of payments from the State of Illinois and stagnant tax revenues as a result of the economy.

County Board Chair Greg Bacon tells WGIL that everybody came to the table during this year’s negotiations.

“We’ve got to figure out how to keep everybody here,” Bacon said.  “That’s one way we can do it, is by give and take on both sides.”

Additional bargaining sessions are set for March to finalize the remaining County departments.
