Galesburg Youth Tell Peacekeepers What They Think Needs to Change

2-27-14 PeacekeepersThe night ended with electricity in the air.  At least that’s how Peacekeeper Anthony Law describes the conclusion to last night’s Peacekeepers meeting.

The third Peacekeepers meeting invited Galesburg’s youth to talk about what they think is the core reason behind Galesburg’s rise in crime.

Last night’s meeting provided students a safe place where they could come and freely speak their minds.

Galesburg High School Senior Darrian King tells WGIL today’s youth and the youth of yesterday are two very different groups.

“Our generation is different; it’s totally different,” King said.  “I think that we should have a say-so, and they should really hear what we would like for other people to get off the street, kids just off the street.”

Students talked about how there’s nothing for them to do in Galesburg and that’s the main reason so many youth are finding themselves in trouble.

The Peacekeepers decided to take their issues and ideas to next week’s City Council Meeting.
