Girls Basketball

It looks like tomorrow’s anticipated snowy weather will hold off this evening, so a number of the area girls high school basketball games can be played. One of those is in Abingdon, where the Tornados will host North Fulton. In Monmouth, the Titans will clash with West Hancock. A couple of other area teams will be on the road, as United travels to Wethersfield and ROWVA heads for Stark County.

City Council to Consider False Fire Alarm Fees

The Galesburg City Council Monday will likely change the way the city responds to false fire alarms, after some initial changes years ago.

Aldermen will vote on whether or not to charge $50s for the false fire alarm firefighters are called to at any one location, and $150 for every false alarm after that.

IL Unions, Nonprofits Want Higher Caregiver Pay

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Nonprofit workers, union leaders and groups representing the developmentally disabled are making a push at the Illinois state Capitol for higher caregiver wages.

What supporters are calling the “Care Campaign” will deliver 10,000 postcards to Gov. Pat Quinn’s office Tuesday. They’ll urge him to support legislation increasing wages for caregivers at community nonprofits supported by state funds.
