Springfield Supermarkets Expected to Hire Hundreds

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Springfield-area supermarkets are expected to hire hundreds of workers in the next few months, raising hopes that it will ease unemployment.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield reports that there’ll be openings for full- and part-time positions for everything from checkout clerks to pharmacy technicians.

But if the Democratic incumbent sees Illinois as a state on the rise, the Republicans seeking to oust him view it far differently –as an economic basket case.

UPDATE: Bomb Threat Forces Knoxville Schools to Evacuate

Knoxville School District 202 sent students home around 11:30 Monday morning after administration got word of a bomb threat in Knoxville High School.

Superintendent Steve Wilder says the threat was extremely vague, but the district didn’t want to risk the safety of students and made the decision to not just evacuate the high school but the entire district.

John R. Thurman, age 75 of Hermon, died at 4:06 pm Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 20, 1938 in Avon, the son of Theodore “Ted” “Tobe” and Jennie P. (Hoadley) Thurman. He married Connie McGrew. They later divorced. He then married Diane L. Weathers on May 18, 1974 in Abingdon.

Teddy A. Kennelly, age 90, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 2:04 A.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home in Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born on April 12, 1923 in Maquon, Illinois the son of Joseph A. and F. Mae Simkins Kennelly. He attended and graduated from Maquon High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army Air Corp,
