HUNTLEY, Ill. (AP) — An elderly woman who apparently wandered away from her northern Illinois home was later found dead in the snow along a roadside by a passing driver.
McHenry County Undersheriff Andy Zinke says the woman’s body, clad in nightgown and shoes, was found Saturday near Huntley. She apparently died of exposure to the cold and may have had dementia.
Authorities haven’t confirmed the woman’s identity. Zinke says it’s important to check on elderly family members during cold weather.
