David A. Carlson, 68, of Galesburg, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Dave was born June 15, 1945 in Peoria, the son of Arne L. and Margaret (Funston) Carlson. Dave married Judy Kampert. He later married Elizabeth “Betty” Rickard-McNaught on February 23, 2002 in Gulf Breeze, FL. Dave is survived by his wife, Betty of Galesburg; a son, Arne W. (Lisa) Carlson of Manassas, VA; a step daughter, Julia Armstrong of Galesburg; and one sister, Jane (Bill) Romback of Negaunee, MI. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Grant McNaught, Victoria, Ufen, Mariah Armstrong, and Malcolm Carlson; and one great grandson, Jayce Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Clay Carlson on Nov. 24, 1989.
Dave was a design draftsman for Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed working on model cars, working in his yard, and tending to his garden.
Celebration of Life will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Cremation rites will be accorded following the celebration. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association or to Multiple Sclerosis Society.
