Kenneth A. Martin, age 92 of Knoxville, IL died at 11:03 A.M Saturday March 1, 2014 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.

Kenneth was born on April 10, 1921 in Canton, IL, the son of Charlie G. and Maud Schofield Martin. He married Audrey E. Watters on October 20, 1946 in Knoxville, IL.

Kenneth is survived by: his wife, Audrey of Knoxville, IL; two daughters, Jackie Martin of Peoria, IL and Jolene (Jeff) Stoppelmoor of Colona, IL; two grandchildren, Rachel (J.D.) Mathews of Olive Branch, MS and Ryan Cecil (Jodi Million) of Creve Couer, IL; four great grandchildren, Lahna Reese Mathews, Cohen Kenneth Mathews, Izac Mathews, and Brenna Million. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Harold Martin and one sister: Edith Smith.

He was reared and educated in Knoxville, IL graduating from Knoxville High School. He worked for various businesses in Knoxville before entering the United States Air Force during World War II from August 24, 1942 until September 9, 1945. He was aboard the 93rd troop carrier SQ 439th GP retiring as a Staff Sgt. He was in Rome, Arno, Southern and Northern France, the Normandy Ardenives, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received one Service Strip; Three Overseas Service Bars; the American Campaign Medal; European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with One Silver and Two Bronze Battle Stars; Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was an Illinois State Policeman for 30 years from 1946 until he retired in 1976. After retiring from the police force, he worked for Dick Blick in Galesburg, IL, Wight Chevrolet in Williamsfield, IL, City of Knoxville Police Department, and then Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home from 1980 until 1999.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, IL. He was also a member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge # 66, AF & AM of Knoxville, IL; Harry Philblad American Legion Post # 749 of Knoxville, IL; Illinois State Police Association; Trooper Lodge #41 Fraternal Order of Police; Retired Illinois State Policeman’s Association and AARP.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Milton Marquith and Phyllis Sterr officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Inurnment will be held at a later date. A fellowship will be held at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center following the Memorial Services.
