Linda M. Lewis, age 60, of Maquon, Illinois died at 3:40 P.M. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois .
She was born on November 25, 1953 in Avon, Illinois the daughter of Darwin and Lois Wilson Nesbit. She attended Spoon River Valley and graduated from Knoxville High School. She then attended Cosmetology School. She married Gilbert E. “Gil” Lewis on September 10, 1972 at the Methodist Church in Galesburg, Illinois.
Surviving is her husband Gil; three children: Jennifer Lester of Peoria, Illinois, Karen (Lindsey) May of Macomb, Illinois, and Matthew Lewis of Chicago, Illinois; two grandsons, Lindsey and Drake May. Also surviving are her siblings: Darla Ray of Maquon, Illinois, Helen Essex of Knoxville, Illinois, Lois Ann Heckart of London Mills, Illinois, Fred Nesbit of Knoxville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Larry.
She was a beautician for many years, and then a cook for the Knoxville Junior High School in Knoxville, Illinois. She served on the Maquon Township as clerk for fifteen years. She was an active member of the Maquon United Methodist Church in Maquon, Illinois and was active at Spoon River Valley School.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Sue Bryce and Dan Doty officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at the Maquon Cemetery, Maquon, Illinois Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
