UPDATED 6:27pm Around 1:50pm Friday, a good portion of the Galesburg downtown area was hit with an unexpected power outage.

WGIL was affected along with the Iron Spike Brewing Company, the business in the Weinberg Arcade and several other businesses along Simmons and Seminary Streets.

According to an Ameren spokesperson, 215 customers were left without power over a two hour period due to a faulty underground cable.

Ameren workers were able to asses the situation and slowly switch customers over to another circuit to restore power.

According to Ameren the faulty wire will be fixed sometime next week, but until then customers will be kept on the alternative circuit.

Several restaurants in the affected area scrambled to get customers bills taken care of, having to use calculators to figure out tax and take down information for credit card and debit transactions.
