Green, Arline Martha

Arline Martha Green, 93, of Galva, died at 8:44 PM, Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Courtyard Estates in Galva. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 18 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva. Rev. Linda Winkelman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, March 17 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church.

She was born on a farm in Knox County on July 25, 1920, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, Elsa (Palmer) and Gunnard Anderson. She graduated from Galva High School and attended Western Teacher’s College in Macomb, IL. She married Edwin G. Green on August 25, 1944 in Galva. She happily lived the life of a farmer’s wife. Mrs. Green was an active, life-long member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, where she was the church historian for 30 years and wrote three church history books. She always wanted to be a teacher and taught in Kelly School, the Bishop Hill Colony School and later was a Kindergarten teacher in the Wethersfield schools. She was a member of the Henry-Stark County and Wethersfield Retired Teachers Associations. Arline spoke fluent Swedish and taught many Swedish classes for area residents. She also belonged to the VASA Lodge #683, the Galva Women’s Club, the Henry County Historical Society and the Galva Historical Society. In later life, she delighted in impersonating Minnie Pearl and entertained many area clubs and organizations.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Madelyn) Green of rural Galva, a daughter, Nancy (Dan Davis) Green of Denver, CO, three grandsons, Warren (Nicole) Green, Geoff Green and Edwin “Ned” Davis, two great granddaughters, a niece, Kathy (Anderson) Mattson, a cousin, Debra (Ekstedt) Miles and many other relatives both here and in Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Reuben Anderson and a sister, Mabel in infancy.
