Republicans to Hold Unity Luncheon After Primary

WGIL Newsroom . 2014 Primary, State News 222

CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Republican Party plans to hold a unity luncheon after Tuesday’s primary.

The event is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chicago’s Union League Club.

Officials are billing the gathering as a kick-off event to elect more Republicans up and down the ballot in the November general election.

Party Chair Jack Dorgan says that the party is “ready, willing and eager to deliver.” He notes officials will be working together toward a shared goal of victory.

The efforts come a year after a public battle between members of the party’s state central committee over whether to oust former its former chair for making statements supporting same-sex marriage.

Dorgan has spoken of working for better party unity since being named to the post in June.
