McCann, John A.

Mr. John A. McCann, 61, of Oneida, Ill. died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home.

He was born January 16, 1953 to Anthony and Eulalia Cramer McCann. He married Mary Ann Nicol on July 17, 1976 in Little York, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lindsay (and Jared) Higgerson of Rio, Ill. and Corey (and Craig) Anderson of Galva, Ill.; three brothers, Larry (and Rita) McCann of Altona, Ill., Robert (and Terry) McCann of McMinnville, Tenn., and Joe (and Janet) McCann of Oquawka, Ill.; a sister, Mary (and David) Hoffman of Kankakee, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Peighton, Tate and Beau Higgerson. His mother-in-law, Helen Jane Nicol of Little York, Ill. also survives. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

He graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1971 and worked for Armour Eckrich in food sales retiring in August of 2013. He most recently drove a school bus for ROWVA School District. John’s career always involved working with people whether through seed sales, the restaurant business or food sales and in his recent retirement, his focus turned to the little people who rode his bus.

John most enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and family. He relished time sitting on the deck enjoying nice weather and any company that stopped by. John and Mary Ann were beginning to enjoy time traveling together in their retirements. He liked to golf and spent quality time helping to coach his daughter’s softball teams.

Cremation will be accorded. Celebration of his life service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Marty Briney will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the chapel. Burial of cremated remains will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.
