Seibert, Billy Lamont

Mr. Billy Lamont Seibert, 67, of Dahinda, Ill. died at 11:15 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home.

He was born June 2, 1946 in Galesburg, Ill. to William P. and Vivian Virgene Shake Seibert. He married Brenda Joyce Cherrington January 6, 1970 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving is his mother, Vivian Virgene Seibert of Galesburg; two sons, Zachary and his wife Tracey Seibert of Columbia, S.C. and Saul and his wife Kelli Seibert of Galesburg; a daughter, Maggie and her husband Dale Kellett of Galesburg; a sister, Cheryl and her husband Dale Judy of Knoxville, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

Billy joined the Navy June of 1965. He served two tours in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge in June of 1968. After serving in the military, Billy married the love of his life, Brenda Joyce Cherrington. Billy devoted his life to the mission field and the message of Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. For over 40 years, Billy pursued Christian community and authentic outreach to the Ragamuffins and Rebels in society. After working locally for several years in the mental health field and the Galesburg Rescue Mission, he and his wife moved to New Orleans in 1994 and founded Street Level Inc., a non-profit church and ministry that reached out to the local residents of the French Quarter. He served there for 14 years. Billy lived his whole life in the pursuit of God and his Kingdom. To live is Christ, to die is gain. Philippians 1:21.

Cremation will be accorded. Celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at First Church of God in Galesburg. Rev. Michael Rousey will officiate. Military rites will be by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. An informal visitation will follow the service at the church until 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.
