The measure was brought forward after 6th Ward Alderman Wayne Allen made the suggestion at the previous Council meeting.
City Administration has been working for some time to streamline certain parts of the development ordinance.
Some suggestions for those changes will be considered at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting tonight.
Last night, Allen pointed to the goals report which was developed during the summer as a guide for future City action on the landscape ordinance suspension.
“According to this report we are going to vote on tonight, it will require the commitment of all city departments and immediate action to take include assessing and changing code enforcement and different inspection and development processes and reviews and that is all a part of this. It’s a start.”
That report was also approved last night.
Allen made the recommendation to suspend the ordinance after saying a business was interested in coming to Galesburg.
That business later turned out to be Casey’s General Store – which will be located at the corner of East Carl Sandburg Drive and North Seminary Street.
The ordinance was suspended for six months pending further recommendations from the City’s Community Development Department.
