IL Parties to Rebuild Unity After Primary

WGIL Newsroom . 2014 Primary, State News 244

voteCHICAGO (AP) — One day after Illinois’ primary election, Republicans and Democrats are holding separate “unity” gatherings in Chicago.

Democrats are holding a party breakfast at the Billy Goat Tavern in downtown Chicago on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Republicans are holding a “march to victory” luncheon later in the day at the Union League Club.

Both parties are hoping to restore unity after a sometimes-divisive primary season.

During Tuesday’s election, multimillionaire Bruce Rauner won the Republican nomination for governor in a costly four-race race. He’ll face Gov. Pat Quinn in the November general election.

Dairy magnate Jim Oberweis beat Downers Grove businessman Doug Truax in the Republican primary race for U.S. Senate. He’ll face U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.
