So far, the only spring sports to happen at Galesburg High School are indoor track meets. Another of those comes up this Saturday, when Galesburg hosts the Silver Streak Indoor meet at Monmouth College.
Athletic Director Ralph Henning says due to ongoing construction, there will be no home track meets this season at GHS.
It’s a similar situation for baseball at this point, as the Silver Streaks cannot play home games at Sundburg Field, due to the weather and construction issues. This weekend was to have been the annual opening weekend tournament, but it was cancelled. Henning said there is still hope that some of the home games can be played on the school campus.
Henning added that home games may also be played this spring at Knox, Monmouth, and Carl Sandburg Colleges, depending on availability.
The basketball season at Carl Sandburg College wrapped up yesterday, when the Chargers men lost to Potomac State at the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville. Head coach Ryan Twaddle said it will be tough to bid farewell to an outstanding group of players.
The Chargers finished the season with a record of 18-16, and became the first men’s team in school history to play in the National Tournament.
