Orpheum Gears Up For Red Carpet Series Changes

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 187

Orpheum TheatreOrpheum Theatre Executive Director Kevin Maynard is looking ahead to next season’s Red Carpet Series, and is excited for the future of the theatre.

Maynard spoke with the Civic Center Authority Board about the upcoming series and the changes being made to better accommodate patrons and renters.

He says the upcoming series will have one fewer show in an effort to allow patrons a chance to see more shows in the series.

Maynard tells WGIL he doesn’t believe patrons will see a difference in the quantity of shows, but they will see a difference in the scheduling.

“We’re making sure that we’re giving at least a two to three week gap to allow ticket sales for both to do as well as possible,” says Maynard. “And to allow our patrons to be able to go to both because some of our patrons have to choose what they can afford to go to so we’d like to prevent that.”

Maynard says Orpheum staff are working to get the building taken care of and preparing for next week’s production of the Acting Company’s “Hamlet” and “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.”

Maynard says ticket sales for that show, however, are lower than expected.
