Galesburg Silver StreaksThe local sports schedule continues to be very light, with few events scheduled, and most of those succumbing to the wet grounds around the area. The Galesburg girls did get a softball game in yesterday, and fell at Abingdon/Avon 10-to-8. The Silver Streaks are scheduled to play at Orion tomorrow. One event that will happen, rain or shine, is the Silver Streaks indoor invitational. That will be run tomorrow at Monmouth College.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the GHS girls soccer game with Geneseo has already been postponed.

The Associated Press Class 3A and 4A All-State boys basketball team has been announced. Galesburg junior Grant Gibson is on the list as an honorable mention selection. Gibson moved up the ranks of all-time scorers in GHS history this year to the #2 spot, averaging 20 points per game for the Silver Streaks, who finished with a record of 22-11. Canton’s Hunter Rhoades also received honorable mention, as did Rock Island senior guard C.J. Carr. Other area players receiving post-season recognition last week included Monmouth-Roseville’s Martel Hunter, Galva’s Dex Ingles, and Kewanee Wethersfield’s Trevor Lay.
