Post-season honors were bestowed upon members of the Galesburg Silver Streaks boy’s basketball team last night at their annual banquet at Galesburg High School. Head Coach Mike Reynolds announced the award winners, which included:
Devin Ross–most improved player; Denzel Jones–best defensive player, and Grant Gibson–most valuable player. The Silver Streak Award, given annually to the player who best represents the dedication and enthusiasm of Silver Streak basketball, went to Logan Davis. This year’s varsity team went 22-11, and became the first team since the 1997-98 Silver Streaks to win 20 games in consecutive seasons. The future looks bright as well, as the Galesburg freshman team finished with a record of 16-5.
The Knox Prairie Fire baseball team is headed back from Florida after finishing its opening week of play in Ft. Myers with a record of 4-and-4. The Fire played twice yesterday, losing to nationally-ranked Augustana College 13-0, and then beating Plattsburgh State 13-12. Knox will play host to Robert Morris in doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting.
If today’s cold temperatures don’t cause cancellations, here’s the area high school baseball schedule:
Knoxville at Peoria Christian
Monmouth-Roseville at North Fulton
ROWVA at Riverdale
Abingdon/Avon at Rushville
Today’s freshman baseball game at Sherrard has been cancelled.
There will be softball this afternoon for the Galesburg girls, who host Ridgewood. The Silver Streaks game will be played at Carl Sandburg College.
