Peacekeepers Look Forward to Action Plan

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 136

Tonight the Galesburg Peacekeepers will meet to continue their work on ways to improve Galesburg and help it’s youth.

This time, the meeting will be at the former Carver Center, at 424 Depot Street.

Organizer John Hunigan says the decision to move locations was in an effort to attract new members, especially Galesburg’s youth.

For the Peacekeepers, the past three meetings were more informational–gathering as much information from the public as possible.

But, Hunigan tells WGIL the time to put an action plan together has come.

“We’ll talk a little bit, get some feedback from the people that are there, what they would like to see the direction of the Peacekeepers, in terms of…an organization, ” Hunigan said.  “What it looks like we’re going to do, we’re going to file as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.  From there, we’ll be looking for people that would be interested in being an officer and/or board members.”

Hunigan says becoming a 501(c)3 charitable organization is the step in the right direction.

He says it will also give the organization the chance to apply for grants and other funding to help the group accomplish their goals.
