Employees Wrestle Assailant To Ground After Knife Incident

Galesburg Police were called to the 2500 block of Grand Avenue in Galesburg to a disturbance.

Just before 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, police arrived on scene to find several people holding a man to the ground.

According to the police report, the dispatcher at Checker Cab Company noticed a man barge into the location and contacted police due to suspicious behavior.

The subject was described as a white male wearing a leather jacket and being armed with a knife.

The dispatcher requested that the employees return to headquarters to assist with the situation. The subject, identified as 35-year old David Jennings left the location.

One of the driver’s, however, had different plans as he approached the subject. Jennings then allegedly pulled a knife on the driver. About that time, more Checker Cab employees arrived on scene.

When Jennings allegedly approached the group with the knife, they took him to the ground. Officers arrived on scene to conduct an arrest.

Jennings is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
