Tyson Parks of the Galesburg Silver Streaks had 8 points and 11 rebounds for the Illinois team in last night’s Iowa-Illinois Senior All-Star Showcase at Augustana College. Parks also finished third in the slam dunk contest, after leading the event through the first two rounds. Iowa ended up winning the contest 93-92 in overtime. Rock Island’s Trey Sigel had 15 points, while first team all-stater Ethan Happ of Rockridge led the Illinois team with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Today’s cold weather has forced the postponement of most of the area outdoor sporting events, including the Galesburg Silver Streaks baseball game at Dunlap. GHS athletic director Ralph Henning says the game is simply being moved back one day, as they will play tomorrow at 4:30.
This weekend’s annual Early Spring tournament will be played, but won’t be held at Galesburg’s Sundberg Field. The GHS facility continues to undergo rennovations, so the 9-team tourney will be played at Dunlap and Metamora. Area teams from Knoxville, Abingdon/Avon, and Ridgewood will also be playing there, along with Peoria Richwoods, Dixon, and Rock Island. The Silver Streaks first game is Friday at 6:45 against Metamora on the Redbirds home field.
