A Galesburg man arrested earlier this month for an alleged sexual assault of a woman was back in court yesterday.
22-year-old Brent Clark was in Knox County Circuit Court for what was supposed to be a preliminary hearing. But as the hearing was about to start, Public Defender Karl Johnson indicated his client wished to waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of Criminal Sexual Assault, Unlawful Restraint, and Criminal Damage to Property.
Clark was arrested March seventh after police were called to a Pine Street home, and a victim alleges that Clark held her against her will, and engaged in sexual conduct with her. Police say the victim — who was injured — also had her cell phone stolen by Clark before he fled the scene. Clark was later located at a Grand Avenue liquor store, but led police on a foot chase before being arrested back on Pine Street.
Clark remains held in the Knox County Jail on $250,000 bond. An arraignment hearing was scheduled for a week from tomorrow.
