Payton, Lomac A., II

Lomac Anthony Payton, II, 40, Galesburg, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, of natural causes at home.

He was born May 10, 1973, in Galesburg, to Lomac A. Payton I and Charlotte Bell, the first of their two children.

Lomac was a member of Galesburg High School’s Class of 1990. He was a member of the football, basketball and track teams. He attended Carl Sandburg College where he studied psychology. Lomac was skilled and worked in a variety of positions and was most recently employed at ILPEA and Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg. He was baptized at a young age as a member of Second Baptist Church. Lomac was an active member and Senior Deacon of W.L. Darrow Lodge 10 in the Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons.
Lomac enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room. He enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz, fishing and hunting. Lomac had aspirations of becoming a chef and could be found cooking and grilling on any given occasion. He had a deep sense of family and ancestry; he loved spending time with and supporting his family, especially his daughters.

On March 20, 2014, God sent an angel, for He had decided Lomac’s journey was complete. He leaves to cherish his spirit and memories the following survivors: his parents; his grandmother, Carolyn Bell of Quincy; two daughters, Kenzie Mariah Payton and Le’Char Lukisha Payton-Morgan of Galesburg; seven sisters, Dr. Clarice (Antonio) Morgan of Galesburg, Andrea Payton, Evelyn Jones, Yvonne Payton, Tamara (Michael) Bell, all of Sacramento, Calif., Jacqueline Cooper of Charlotte, N.C., and Cynthia Luckett of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Charles Taylor Payton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one adopted sister, Christian Lewis of Galesburg; four best friends/”brothers,” Gary (Jennifer) Abbott, Justin (Robin) Roberson, Michael “Shorty” (Beth) Peterson, all of Galesburg, and Tyrone Williams of East Galesburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Pastor Johnnie Trammell will officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church.
