Former Orpheum Manager Pleads Guilty To Sex Charge

Josh DamewoodThe former manager of Galesburg’s Orpheum Theatre will serve jail time and four years on probation after pleading guilty to a felony sex charge.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 27-year-old Josh Damewood pleaded guilty to a single charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, today. In exchange, a second abuse charge was dropped.  Damewood was given 60 days in the Knox County Jail and is eligible for work release, along with the probation.

Damewood turned himself in to authorities right around New Years Day of 2013, a few weeks after a then-16-year-old boy told authorities Damewood performed sexual acts on him while on the Orpheum Theatre stage, after the boy asked about a part in a production he wanted.

The two also allegedly exchanged sexually-explicit text messages.

Damewood must also pay restitution to the Knox County Child Advocacy Center according to court records.

Damewood was fired from his job as Managing Director the the Orpheum not long after his arrest.
